Grow Alabama Brings the Best of Local Farms To Your Door

June 10, 2009

For many greenies, fresh, organic fruits and veggies are one of the staples of green living. Many of us have taken to growing our own gardens or venturing out to “pick” at nearby farms, but what could be better than having farm-fresh produce delivered right to your front door?

A local company called Grow Alabama has made it possible to experience farm-fresh goods, without the hassle of supermarkets and with the satisfaction of supporting local agriculture.

“With less than 5% of fresh produce in most grocery stores from Alabama, Grow Alabama is your opportunity to have locally grown vegetables, fruits, eggs, dairy products, even fresh meats delivered to your home, office, or to a central pick-up point near you, from Alabama’s family farms,” according to the company’s website.

Jerry Spencer, Grow Alabama’s founder, is committed to helping Alabama’s farmers get their harvests to your front door and on your table. His passion for exposing locals to the great tastes of Alabama has helped him expand Grow Alabama one farm at a time. “Instead of fruits and vegetables that have been picked unripe in California and transported for days, you’re tasting fresh corn, beans, peas, squash that were rippling in sun-drenched rows less than 48 hours ago, and picked by a farmer who had the time to look for the perfect moment of ripeness and flavor,” says Jerry.

Grow Alabama's affordable memberships are readily available on-line in “gold share” and “silver share” plans. Share plans include weekly or bi-weekly delivery options, customizable orders, recipes, and more. Participating farms will have a number that will be labeled on the food you receive, where you can go to the “Meet the Farmers” link on the website to see exactly where your food came from. How perfect is that?

Aside from the great taste and convenience of foods from Grow Alabama, there is also the satisfaction of keeping millions of dollars from leaving the great State of Alabama.
