Seven Years Running: Moss Rock Festival Returns as Southeast’s Premier Eco-Event

The Moss Rock Festival, Alabama’s leading Eco event, will take place Nov. 3-4, at The Preserve in Hoover. The 7th annual event promises to offer an exceptional arena in which festival goers can explore the latest trends inspired by nature, eco-ideas, art and design.

Visitors will have the chance to explore and learn from area experts about an incredible array of green related concepts and issues while browsing through dozens of eco-exhibits. The family-friendly event attracts an average of 15,000 visitors annually, and features more than 100 artisans, musical entertainment, and a host of kid-friendly craft activities. In addition to several eco-friendly workshops, the festival is also home to an Eco-District, where more than two dozen local organizations, businesses, and services showcase their green minded concepts.

Eileen Kunzman, founder and director of the Moss Rock Festival, describes the annual event as “a regional focus for art, design & environmental lovers everywhere.”  The goal of the Moss Rock Festival, she continues, is to “educate and involve the public with organizations, companies, designers, architects, artists, engineers, and landscape architects, etc., all who are working hard to make a difference in the community’s quality of life issues.”

Growing in both popularity and in size, each year the Moss Rock Festival continues to expand in multiple ways. In fact, last year the festival expanded well into a large grassy area across from the Preserve’s Town Hall in order to accommodate additional exhibitors and artists. The event also features a wide range of live music, craft beer tasting, a cake design expo & tasting, giveaways and more.

When hunger strikes, a visit to the variety of food vendors located at the festival’s Cafe by the Woods, is sure to satisfy even the heartiest of appetites. Yet, the options don’t end there. This year, many of Birmingham’s most popular food trucks will also be on site, offering an assortment of flavorful dishes- many of which are prepared using locally grown foods.

Each year the Moss Rock Festival also aims to promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and enjoying time outdoors. The event encourages visitors to join other patrons for a family friendly self guided bike ride. This leisurely tour will take riders along a well marked course through The Preserve neighborhood (1 mile loop), with the promise of a treat at the end for the younger participants.

Festival hours will run from 10 am-5 pm, on Saturday and 10 am-4 pm on Sunday. Admission is free of charge. Visitors are encouraged to park at Regions Park where a complimentary shuttle service will provide rides to and from the festival site.
