ValloCycle, CommuteSmart Increase Montevallo Bike Parking

ValloCycle and CommuteSmart have partnered with Birmingham’s Local Bicycle Racks Company in an effort to increase bicycle parking in downtown Montevallo. The additional bicycle parking aims to make the city even more bike-friendly, offering bicyclists additional bike racks in the heart of downtown. ValloCycle, Montevallo’s Bike Share Program, hopes the increased bicycle parking will encourage bicyclists to spend more time downtown, taking advantage of all that Montevallo has to offer.

Currently, there are nine bicycle racks located in front of many of Montevallo’s downtown businesses and other destinations. Locations include, Montevallo Office Plaza; Stephens Park, one of the stops along the Montevallo Greenway Trail; Video Underground; Eclipse Coffee and Books; El Agave; Main Street Tavern; Piggly Wiggly; Lucky’s Foodland; and CVS Pharmacy.

Jeff Webster, owner of Main Street Tavern in Montevallo, believes the additional bike racks located throughout town are a great way to promote greater accessibility for members of the community. “I’ve seen at least one bike a day (parked) on it,” he said. “It’s good for the town.”

Local Bicycle Racks Company custom-built the racks for ValloCycle. Each rack holds two bicycles and features the signature logos of ValloCycle and CommuteSmart.

Funding for the new bicycle racks was provided by CommuteSmart, which works to provide residents of Jefferson and Shelby Counties with incentives for alternative methods of commute. Anyone who bikes, walks, carpools, or works from home is eligible to register to receive incentives offered by CommuteSmart.
